πŸ“š North Hanover Homework Policy Summary (Grades 4–6)

πŸ” Purpose of Homework:

  • Reinforce, deepen, or extend learning from class.

  • Encourage creativity through long-term projects (e.g., themes, art).

  • Must be meaningful β€” never used as a punishment.


⏱️ Time Guidelines:

  • Homework is limited to 10 minutes per grade level per night:

    • Grade 4: Up to 40 minutes

    • Grade 5: Up to 50 minutes

    • Grade 6: Up to 60 minutes


πŸ“† Missed Work & Absences:

  • Students have 2.5 school days per day absent to make up missed work.

  • For anticipated absences, families may:

    • Request work 3+ school days in advance

    • Teachers may provide:

      • Planned assignments (if available)  

  • All assigned work is due upon return unless other arrangements are made.


✏️ Incomplete Work:

  • If work is not completed, the student receives an β€œIncomplete” for the marking period.

  • Students have 10 school days after the marking period to submit missing work.

  • If not submitted by the end of the next marking period, a failing grade may be assigned.

  • For missing work in the final marking period, the grade will be determined by the teacher and principal together.
