Dear UES Families,
It is a true privilege to serve as the Principal of Upper Elementary School, where we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that inspires every student to grow with perseverance, pride, and purpose. A core value I hold is the importance of student voice within their learning environment and teaching students to advocate for themselves and others.
With over 18 years in education and a unique perspective as a military spouse, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and lead in diverse school communities across the country and overseas—including in Tennessee, Germany, Oklahoma, and right here in New Jersey. My career has spanned roles from general education to special education, and grade levels from K to 7th. At the heart of it all is my passion for helping students thrive and my belief in the power of strong school communities.
At UES, we know that when families, staff, and students work together, incredible things happen. I am deeply committed to strengthening those partnerships and ensuring every child feels known, supported, and challenged.
I invite you to stay connected, get involved, and reach out any time. Whether you have a question, a suggestion, or simply want to say hello, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or through my secretary, Mrs. Seith, at [email protected].
Let’s make it a great year—together.
Warmly,
April Wawryk
Principal, Upper Elementary School
Get to Know Me
When I’m not at school, you can probably find me reading something! I love Brené Brown—her work on courage, vulnerability, and leadership continues to shape how I show up both personally and professionally.
I’m also a passionate traveler, having visited over 50 countries. Exploring new cultures, hiking off the beaten path, and meeting people from around the world have all helped me see the beauty of curiosity and lifelong learning—values I hope to pass along to our students every day.
I believe in the power of community, the magic of small moments, and the importance of laughing often (especially during long lunch duties!). I look forward to sharing this journey with you and your child.
