At UES, we are proud to support a diverse community of learners. Our Multilingual Learners (ML) program, also known as English Learners (EL) or English as a Second Language (ESL), is designed to help students develop English language proficiency while accessing grade-level content and building confidence in all areas of learning.

🏠 Who We Support

Students may qualify for ML/ESL support if:

  • A language other than English is spoken in the home

  • The student demonstrates a need for language support based on multiple measures, including assessments, teacher input, and enrollment questionnaires

🎯 Purpose of the ESL Program

The ESL program exists to:

  • Support the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English

  • Ensure students can fully participate in academic content while acquiring language skills

  • Promote cultural inclusion, communication skills, and long-term academic success

πŸ§‘β€πŸ« How Support Is Provided

At UES, ML/ESL services are flexible and based on individual student needs:

  • Instruction may occur within the homeroom classroom (push-in model)

  • Students may also receive targeted instruction in a small-group setting (pull-out model)

Our ESL teachers collaborate closely with classroom teachers to ensure students receive consistent, supportive, and aligned instruction throughout the day.
