Student Dress Code (Grades 4–6)
The North Hanover Township Board of Education respects students' individuality and personal style. However, student dress and grooming must support a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment. The following guidelines apply to students in grades 4 through 6 and should be used to help determine appropriate school attire.
General Expectations

Students should come to school dressed in a way that supports learning, movement, and safety throughout the day.

All clothing should be clean, appropriately fitted, and allow students to participate in all school activities comfortably.
Prohibited Clothing
To maintain a positive and respectful school climate, the following types of clothing are not permitted:

Midriff-baring tops (e.g., crop tops, half-shirts)

Strapless, halter, mesh, tube tops, or low-cut shirts

Shirts with overly large armholes or deep-cut sides

Sheer or see-through garments

Shorts, skirts, or dresses that are shorter than fingertip length

Clothing that is excessively tight, baggy, or revealing

Shirts tied up to be midriff.
Footwear Expectations

Flip-flops, slides, or beach-style sandals are not permitted.

Footwear must be secure and safe for stairs, playgrounds, and emergency drills.

Open-toed shoes with back straps are acceptable if they provide adequate support.
Other Restrictions

Outdoor wear such as hats, hoods, sunglasses, and jackets may not be worn indoors unless approved by the principal for medical or religious reasons.

Clothing with inappropriate language, images, or references to alcohol, drugs, violence, or obscenity is not allowed.

Pajamas or loungewear are not appropriate for the school day unless designated for a special event.
Special Notes

Students attending school-sponsored events (e.g., concerts, field trips, dances) are expected to follow the same dress guidelines.

Exceptions to this policy may be granted for religious or medical reasons with prior approval.
